Weight Loss New Secret: Water Before Meals – Water, it’s always been around, hopefully always will be. It serves so many purposes, and now, a study has found another purpose for H2O.
Having a glass of water with your meal could help you to lose weight, according to researchers.
The study was done on overweight and obese people, aged 55 to 75. What they were told to do is follow a low-fat, low-calorie diet for one group, while the other group follow the same diet but had to drink two cups of water before breakfast, lunch and dinner as well.
Between the two groups, a 30% difference was found in their weight loss. On average, the water drinkers lost 15.5 pound, while the non-water drinkers lost 11 pounds, on average, after 12 weeks.
Also, what has been found, is that adults aged between 55 to 75 who have a glass of water with their meals have a tendency to eat less calories, which is a sign that water is extremely beneficial for the body.
“Drinking more water is a pretty simple strategy that may be helpful to people trying to lose weight,” senior study author Brenda Davy, an associate professor in the department of human nutrition, foods and exercise at Virginia Tech. “We’re not saying, ‘Drink more water and the body fat will melt away’. But for people who are trying to lose weight and trying to follow a low-cal diet, it’s something they can do as part of that.”
